The Reading Shop is an independent children’s bookshop.   We have hundreds of the best children’s books in stock, handpicked for all ages:  books for babies, wonderful picture storybooks for toddlers, books for children who are just starting to read, and of course, a wide range for good readers, whatever their age, including non-fiction, educational material, dual language books and our special gift packs.  And we have a varied programme of events, including weekly story time, author signings, puppet shows and parties.  NB We also take orders for any book at all - click on Books For Adults 

But The Reading Shop is unlike any other children's bookshop.   With our unique colour coding system, parents (and grandparents!) can always find the right book, whether it’s for a young person who is making a start at reading, a child who can read but hates books, or a very young fluent reader.   We arrange books according to skill and interest level, not age.

Our friendly staff is always ready to give advice if needed.   Lynn is an educational psychologist, with extensive experience in working with children to help them develop literacy skills.   Sue D manages our school sales, and Sue W oversees the shop.  We hope you'll pay us a visit soon!
