The books in this section are ideal for children who are just beginning to read. They use large attractive illustrations with only a few words per page. Words are either "phonically regular": that is, they are composed of letters which can be easily sounded out, so that the child should be able to hear the word from the sounds of the letters. Or they are short "high frequency" words (words from the 100 most used words in print) for children to learn by sight. We have also included books with pictures and content which will appeal to older children who are only just beginning to read. Children should read these books with an adult to tell them words they can't read immediately.
